Custom High Nits Displays for Non-Standard Sizes

Not every application uses a standard 16:9 screen. Platform edge strips, carriage ceiling displays, entrance totems, and menu boards all need form factors that off-the-shelf monitors cannot deliver. A 48-inch wide panel that is only 200 mm tall does not exist in any catalog. It has to be built as a custom high nits display.

RisingStar builds custom high nits display panels from Tier-1 glass substrates. We do not crop or mask standard 16:9 panels. Every display is manufactured from full-size motherglass, then cut and re-driven to the target aspect ratio. The result is a panel where every pixel is active, every LED in the backlight contributes to the image, and the chassis is sized for the visible area only — no wasted power, no dead zones, no thermal hotspots from masked LEDs.

Custom Sizing Without Compromise

A cropped 16:9 panel carries three penalties that a custom-built display avoids:

Wasted backlight power. Masking a 48-inch 16:9 panel to produce a 48-inch stretch bar leaves 60–80 percent of the LED backlight running behind areas that nobody sees. That power becomes heat trapped inside the enclosure. A custom-built panel sizes the backlight to the active area only — every LED contributes to the displayed image.

Unnecessary chassis depth. A cropped panel needs a chassis deep enough to accommodate the full backlight module, even though most of it is masked. A custom panel fits in a chassis 25–35 mm deep, critical for carriage ceiling installations where every millimeter of depth reduces passenger headroom.

Thermal imbalance. The LEDs behind masked zones generate heat in a confined space with no airflow. Over months, the thermal gradient accelerates LED degradation and can push the LCD past its clearing point. A custom panel with a backlight sized to the active area distributes heat uniformly.

High Nits Display Configurations

Custom sizing does not mean compromising on brightness. RisingStar configures every custom panel with brightness from 500 to 5,000 nits, factory-calibrated to the deployment environment. The backlight is designed around the panel's actual dimensions, not adapted from a standard array.

RS140XTM-GE12 — 14.1 Inch Stretched Bar Display

A 14.1-inch stretch bar designed for compact mounting spaces where a standard panel is too tall. The ultra-wide aspect ratio fits door header slots, bus destination displays, and narrow information strips. Factory-calibrated to 1,200 nits with Hi-Tni panel technology. This compact high nits display fits spaces where a standard panel cannot go.

RS485IVN-GE08 — 48.5 Inch High Brightness Stretch Panel

A 48.5-inch stretch bar for platform edge displays, concourse information strips, and transit wayfinding. At 800 nits with IPS wide viewing, it suits semi-outdoor and covered platform environments. The 48.5-inch format shows 4–6 route entries in a strip that fits the narrow cutout above platform screen doors. This high nits display is engineered for continuous 24/7 operation in transit environments.

Where Custom High Nits Displays Are Used

Transit and rail. Platform edge strips, carriage ceiling displays, and door header screens all use non-standard aspect ratios. Custom sizing allows each to fit its mounting location without wasting space or power. High brightness ensures readability under the variable lighting conditions of stations — from underground platforms at 200 lux to open-air platforms under direct sun.

Digital signage. Narrow-format displays in retail aisles, building lobbies, and elevator lobbies. A custom high nits display ensures the content is readable at the intended viewing distance, even near windows or under bright lighting. The custom form factor also allows the signage to blend into architectural features rather than protruding as an obvious screen.

Industrial HMI. Control panels and equipment interfaces often require non-standard display sizes. Custom sizing with high brightness ensures the interface is readable under factory lighting or in semi-outdoor conditions. Custom display sizes allow the kiosk designer to optimize the user interface layout without being constrained by standard panel dimensions.
